Yuletide 2009

First of all, thank you so much for offering one of my fandoms! I hope you enjoy writing my request.

If you’re here, you’re probably looking for a little extra guidance on what I enjoy. Pleased don’t be scared by the length – I tend to err on the side of too much in the way of “help” and suggestions because that’s what I find easiest myself, but if your muse takes you elsewhere, feel free to follow! Most of all I want you to have fun writing. These are all favourite characters of mine, so I’m sure to love whatever you come up with.

But if you do want guidance: In general terms, I’m happiest with inexplicit fic, these days. I’ve requested or suggested pairings, but these are entirely optional as gen makes me happy, too. I hate rape, "semi"consensual or underage sex.

I really enjoy plot, particularly ludicrously convoluted and silly plot, which lends itself well to my suggested fandoms. I love it when I can “hear” the character’s canon voices; three out of four of my requests are for book fandoms, and I particularly love and admire stories that attempt to capture the author’s voice and read like a missing chapter/story. I love stories that make me giggle and glow sentimentally or both.

On to specific requests!

Richmal Crompton – Just William – Violet Elizabeth Bott

Violet Elizabeth is one of my most favouritest characters ever. I’d particularly like a story in Richmal Crompton’s style in which the adorable ickle tyrant gets her own way – over her mother, the Outlaws, Joan or anyone else - through stubbornness, threats, manipulation, pouts, lisping and a complete lack of moral sense, and ends up smelling of, well, violets.

Anything about Violet Elizabeth triumphing is just going to make me gleeful. I don’t mind if she’s the focus of the story or if the Outlaws (or any other characters) are, as long as Violet Elizabeth manages to get her own way and be smug about it. An attempt to write a story in Crompton’s style, or a diary penned by V.E. (or an Outlaw, or Ethel), would be all kinds of awesome.

P. G. Wodehouse – Jeeves and Wooster series – Bertie Wooster/Lady Florence Craye.

I’d particularly love a story in which Bertie, despite Jeeve’s machinations and his own resistance, ends up cheerfully resigning himself to his fate and donning his spongebag trousers as his very first fiance marches down the aisle. I’d also adore a gen story in which Bertie and Florence end up (platonic or not) allies in aiding the romance of other characters. I strongly prefer book canon, and please no Jeeves/Wooster.

Bertie really would have married Florence if not for the advent of Jeeves. Both Florence and Bertie subsequently run through an alarming sequence of romances and fiance/es, but they keep finding themselves re-engaged. Bertie may kick and resist, but no could cope with his aunts or Jeeves if he wasn’t secretly happier being “managed” by someone with more strength of character. I’d love to see that. Another idea I’d adore would be one in which Bertie ends up simultaneously engaged to Florence and Honoria and ends up with one or the other, I don’t mind which. Or a gen story in which Florence and Bertie join forces would also be wonderful. Book canon rather than tv canon or fanon, please: I like my Florence platinum blonde and Bertie’s first love, and my Jeeves conniving and non-slashy.

I would be very admiring if you try to emulate Wodehouse’s writing style – don’t worry, I don’t expect miracles of virsimulatude, but an attempt would be awesome.

Terry Pratchett – Discworld – Reg Shoe
A story set in Reg's undeath, either as an undead rights campaigner or a member of the Watch or both, would fill me with delight. I'd particularly enjoy an investigation headed by Reg into a crime in Ankh-Morpork's undead community, or a Fresh Start Club fic, or both! Bonus points for appearances by any other Watch also-rans or undead officers and/or Black Ribboners. Gen preferred - please don't squick me with zombie!sex.

Pretty much what it says on the box. Reg is my absolute favourite minor Watch member, and he never ever seems to be in the books enough – thank you so much if you've offered to rectify this deficit. Again, if you make an attempt to capture a Pratchett voice, I'll be really, really impressed. As for other characters – I particularly love Constables Visit and Dorfl and Arthur and Doreen Winkings. 

Jem – Clash aka Constance Montgomery

I'd love to see my favourite groupie with one of her beloved Misfits or indeed Holograms (especially Aja or Raya), female Stingers or female hangers-on – no het, please. I'd also adore a Clash-in-disguise story about her causing havoc with the Holograms to win back her place in the Misfits, or transferring her allegiance to one of the Misfit's rival groups and being the one who needs to be won back by the Misfits for a change, or something exploring her cousinly rivalry with Video. Or any combination of the above! Gen or f/f, and I'd prefer fun and sparkly to dark and angst-driven, pretty please.

I've always had a sneaking fondness for Clash. Pretty much anything focusing on her, especially something that leaves her with a bit of her old pep and ability to cause complete chaos restored, will make me happy. I particularly like her in f/f – please, no het, the Clash in my head is firmly lesbian – and in silly disguises. I'm also really interested in her relationship with Cousin Video, who seemed really hurt in "Video Wars" that Clash hated her so much – and maybe I should mention that I'm not at all opposed to the idea of Clash/Video!

I wouldn't normally prod someone towards YouTube, but as the DVDs are out of print AFAIK, I might mention that key Clash episodes are the "Starbright" trilogy, "Father's Day", "One Jem Too Many", "Video Wars", "The Rock Fashion Book" and "Aztec Enchantment".
